About The ARTHOUSE

My interest in drawing and selecting watercolour as an art medium was kindled by a medical condition, taking time out from a busy engineering career, when I turned 63 years old. Using my old skills as a trained draughtsman and a child's watercolour paint set I sketched and painted a few historical buildings without knowing the detailed intricacies of the world of watercolour painting. I was told they were 'pretty good', gifting the more detailed painting to the medical staff who looked after me for three weeks.

What followed has been a journey of self-taught learning and working at a hobby level to create some work that I gift to family or friends, who have all provided enormous encouragement to continue to improve and enjoy what I create. There have been long periods when I stopped, where work pressure intervened or I considered I wasn't good enough to reach the level I wished to achieve. But practice and perseverance, and watching how other artists did their thing, maintained my interest.

As an initial start-up website there is room for improvement and learning through feedback, to be able to bring my ARTHOUSE paintings to a wider audience, to provide an ARTHOUSE learning section to my watercolour art process, and to have an e-commerce section to offer prints of my finished work for sale - to provide watercolours to live with.
